The event is promoted by the Ministry of Education with the scientific contribution of the Department of Molecular Biotechnology and Health Sciences of the University of Turin, to celebrate Pi Day with the aim of bringing all young people closer to mathematics and to communicate the commitment of the Ministry and schools to the learning of mathematics and scientific disciplines.
The Pi (π) is a fundamental mathematical constant, defined as the ratio between a circle’s circumference and its diameter. Its approximate value is 3.14159, but it is an irrational number, meaning it has infinitely many decimal digits with no repeating pattern. Used in numerous areas of mathematics, physics, and engineering, π is essential for calculating the areas and volumes of circular and spherical shapes. Every year, on March 14, Pi Day is celebrated—a day dedicated to this extraordinary constant.
